Danielle Cvitanov Fires One-Over 73 in Opening Round of 2008 NCAA West Regional

May 8, 2008

(Lincoln, CA) - USF sophomore Danielle Cvitanov fired a one-over 73 in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA West Regional Thursday at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course. Cvitanov carded three birdies on her last four holes in the three-day event hosted by Sacramento State.

Competing as one of three individuals in a field of 20, Cvitanov shares 25th on the individual leader board.

"I am really proud of Danielle's effort," USF head coach Ria Quiazon said. "After she double bogeyed No. 7, she could have folded but instead she rallied with three birdies to close a strong opening round. She was resilient and made the shots she needed. I am looking forward to another good day tomorrow."

Paola Moreno of USC and Allison Walshe of Arizona are atop the leader board at four-under 68. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Nationals. After the first 18 holes, No. 2 USC (283), No. 28 Tulsa (287), No. 47 UNLV (288), No. 7 Arkansas (291) and No. 14 Oklahoma State (293) comprise the top-five while No 27 BYU, No. 21 Michigan State No. 23 Stanford and No. 18 California are in a logjam in sixth place at 295.

Cvitanov tees off her second round Friday at 8:30 AM on hole No. 12. Live scoring is available, courtesy of GolfStat.
