Molly Marrin Joins the USF Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

June 10, 2008

(San Francisco) - Molly Marrin will join the women's basketball coaching staff at the University of San Francisco as announced today by head coach Tanya Haave. An experienced recruiter and a dynamic coach, Marrin spent last season as the recruiting coordinator at North Dakota State.

"We're very excited about Molly joining our staff," said Haave, who coached Marrin as a player at Regis University. "She's proven herself as a recruiter in a short time and regardless of where she has been, she's been able to attract top notch talent. She is a go-getter and I know she will come in and hit the ground running at the University of San Francisco."

"I am really excited about the opportunity to coach at the University of San Francisco," Marrin said. "Tanya has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career and I look forward to working with her and learning from her. USF has so much to offer with its academic reputation, location in a world-class city, and competitive West Coast Conference."

After a standout playing career at Regis, Marrin has spent five seasons serving as an assistant at the Division I level - all as the recruiting coordinator.

Marrin left her mark at North Dakota State in 2007-08, landing some of the top recruits in program history. Incoming recruits she helped land for the Bison's 2008-09 recruiting class include a Nebraska 'Miss Basketball', and an additional player ranked in the top-50 nationally in various publications.

In addition to her duties as recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at North Dakota State, Marrin also worked on scouting and student-athlete academic responsibilities. An accomplished floor coach, Marrin worked with 2008 Summit League Player of the Year Lisa Blue and helped direct the Bison to a 17-11 overall record and a runner-up league finish.

In 2006-07, Marrin was the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at Wright State University of the Horizon League. Her tenure with the Raiders was highlighted by recruiting eventual All-Horizon League First Team selection Shey Peddy, who also garnered GBallMag.com Young All-America honors in 2007-08.

Prior to working at Wright State, she spent three years as the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at the University of Northern Colorado. During her tenure in Greeley, Marrin created and implemented the Bears recruiting plan, which led to the signing of UNC's highest profile signing of Jabrenta Hubbard, ranked among the top-50 players nationally in various publications. In addition to her recruiting duties, Marrin excelled on the court as Northern Colorado led all of Division I from 3-point range, converting on a remarkable 8.6 3-point field goals per game.

An outstanding collegiate performer at Regis University, Marrin helped lead the Rangers to two straight NCAA Division II tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003. As a senior, she was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 2002-03 Preseason Player of the Year and ranked among NCAA leaders in both free throw and three-point field goal percentage. Marrin was named the Regis University 2002-03 Female Athlete of the Year.

Marrin was also a first team all-RMAC selection as a senior and a two-time all-tournament team choice. She finished her career as the fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,128 points.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Marrin graduated cum laude from Regis with a degree in communications in May 2003. She was also a member of the Lamba Pi Eta National Honor Society, a three-time Academic All-RMAC selection and the recipient of both The Marshall McCluhan Mass Media Commencement Award and the Elaine Perry Leadership Scholarship. Marrin earned her master's degree in sports management from Northern Colorado in 2005.

Marrin replaces Shanelle Stires on the USF coaching staff. Stires, who spent two seasons on the Hilltop, accepted a similar position at San Diego State.
