(San Francisco) - USF men's soccer volunteered in the 28th annual KGO Leukemia-Lymphoma Cure-a-Thon Saturday, March 29. The bulk of the Dons squad participated in the phone bank taking pledges. During USF soccer's three-hour shift, they helped generate more than $70,000. Over the total 24 hour of the Cure-a-Thon more than $1 million was raised to help find a cure for leukemia-lymphoma. "I am pleased our team was involved in assisting such an outstanding cause," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "Every player I've talked to was touched by the experience. All of them heard stories of survival from people calling in with pledges and they were truly touched by the experience." Since its inception nearly three decades ago, the Cure-a-thon, to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, has raised more than $15 million dollars. 100 percent of that money goes directly to research.
